Ukiah Main Street. A local contractor with experience in restoring old buildings for new uses has secured the title to the historic Palace Hotel. The controversial 66,000 square foot brick building has a pending demolition permit issued by the City. Local preservation advocates have new hope for the Downtown Ukiah landmark. Read More >

Cardiff 101 Main Street. The Dog Days of Summer, an annual event organized by Cardiff 101 Main Street, was recently featured in a Main Street America article highlighting dog-centric events and promotions. Cardiff’s event attracts around 7,000 attendees each year, making it the largest outdoor dog festival in Southern California.  Read More >

City of Bellflower. A new messaging board at the southwest corner of Bellflower Boulevard and Alondra Boulevard is now welcoming residents into Bellflower's downtown core. The 15-foot vertical sign features a sleek bellflower design and a new programmable LED messaging board that can be used to display public service announcements and community event information. Black Cultural Zone (East Oakland) recently received grant funding from the Levitt Foundation to launch the Levitt Vibe Oakland Summer Concert Series. The Levitt Foundation’s primary grant programs focus on free concerts to invigorate public spaces and enhance community life.. Read The Concert Announcement> | Learn More >

Downtown San Luis Obispo. The Anderson Hotel, a historic 1920’s era building, has reopened after a $50 Million renovation. Thanks to an intervention from local leaders, The Anderson will continue to provide affordable housing with more than half of its 66 units reserved for unhoused people. Read More >

Destination Crenshaw. A newly commissioned mural, “A Monument of Love: Mother & Child” was recently unveiled on the south wall of the Good Shepherd Manor building. It’s now the largest registered mural in South LA. Read More on Instagram >

Downtown Brentwood Coalition. In June, the Delta, a historic Bay Area movie theater reopened after a four and a half year, full renovation with a modern twist. The Delta, which first opened its doors in 1938, has two screens, including one with a stage. The project is one of developer Sean McCauley’s successful commercial property improvements in historic downtowns including Antioch and Pittsburg. Read More >

Vallejo Main Street Hires Executive Director 

After many years without a paid Executive Director, the Vallejo Main Street organization has selected Andrea Portillo-Knowles to fill the position.

It’s the latest step forward for this Bay Area downtown district who recently received renewed financial support from their city council in an effort to relaunch the Main Street program there. Portillo-Knowles is a United States Air Force Veteran, DEI Consultant, business owner, and past Executive Director of Richmond Main Street.

Amy Tilley, Executive Director of Downtown Brentwood Coalition steps down.

After three years of dedicated service, Amy Tilley is moving on from Downtown Brentwood. Tilley has been a strong and effective leader who has grown her organization’s capacity and created many opportunities for her community to thrive.

Reflecting on her time leading the Downtown revitalization efforts Tilley shares, “It has been an honor and privilege to have seen and been a part of the spark that ignited to begin restoring our amazing downtown.”
